Interculturality calls attention to the difficult recognition of ethnic identities and rights, which results from the growing international student migration at higher education. As a relational concept, it should not only be restricted to solidarity and hospitality concepts but ensuring ethicalmoral principles of collective life in the host society. In this context, this study aims: (i) to analyze the discrimination that occurs in everyday experiences and the reactions of those involved and (ii) to understand useful insights to be pursued in higher education contexts. Fifty students, of both sexes, aged between 18 and 25 years old and of different nationalities, were included in this study. In this exploratory and qualitative study, it was developed a survey with three closed- ended questions (sociodemographic data) and one open-ended question (reporting a situation of discrimination, experienced by oneself or others close to it). Data gathered highlight the predominance of racial discrimination, mainly throughout academic years, and predominantly associated with passive and conformist reactions. We highlight the need to develop strategies in educational contexts, in close synergy with local entities, in order to ensure structured and structuring interventions in the sense of a relational ethics with others.
Neste estudo, a interculturalidade constitui-se como um tema direcionado para o difícil reconhecimento de identidades étnicas e dos direitos, consequente do crescente fluxo migratório de estudantes no contexto do ensino superior. Sendo um conceito relacional, não deve restringir-se apenas à solidariedade e hospitalidade, mas contemplar a revisão de princípios ético-morais da vida coletiva da sociedade de acolhimento. Neste âmbito, este estudo visa (i) analisar a discriminação que ocorre nas vivências quotidianas e as reações dos envolvidos e (ii) compreender insights úteis a perseguir nos contextos do ensino superior. Participaram 50 estudantes, de ambos os sexos, com idades dos 18 aos 25 anos e de diversas nacionalidades. Nesta investigação exploratória e qualitativa foi desenvolvido um questionário composto por três questões fechadas (dados sociodemográficos) e uma aberta (relato de uma situação de discriminação, vivenciada pelo próprio
ou outros próximos). Destaca-se uma predominância de discriminação racial manifesta, sobretudo, ao longo da escolaridade e de reações predominantemente passivas e conformistas. Depreende-se deste estudo, a necessidade de desenvolver estratégias nos contextos formativos, em estreita sinergia com as entidades locais, a fim de assegurar intervenções estruturadas e estruturantes no sentido de uma ética relacional com o outro.
