Consideramos que os vestígios arqueológicos podem ser entendidos como dispositivos mnemónicos que estruturam
as memórias das comunidades locais, os seus costumes e práticas. Este artigo analisa o modo como os
vestígios arqueológicos foram interpretados por diferentes comunidades, ao longo da Época Moderna e Contemporânea,
em Portugal. Procura‑
se estudar o contributo da documentação histórica, assim como de algumas
publicações do século XIX/XX, para o conhecimento dos vestígios arqueológicos e da tradição oral.
We believe that the archaeological remains can be understood as “mnemonic devices” that structure the memories
of local communities, their customs and practices. This article contemplates the analysis of how the archaeological
remains were interpreted by different communities, throughout the Modern and Contemporary
times, in Portugal. We seek to study the contribution of historical documentation, as well as some 19th / 20th
century publications, to the knowledge of archaeological remains and oral tradition.
