abstract

  • This article starts with a short review of recent studies and reports on the adaptation of museums toward digital transformation. This first part aims at giving a contextualization of the current importance of the use of technologies, and an understanding of which are the current strategies and struggles museums face regarding their use. In correlation to this context, it becomes relevant to analyze the scientific literature and understand how it reflects the evolution of the adoption of technologies, such as the themes under investigation, inferring trends, among others. Therefore, the second part explores the scientific production related to the use of technologies in museums, in the last decade, by using a bibliometric analysis approach. This study allows us to understand the evolution of the scientific literature on the adoption of technologies in museums, and proposes an agenda for future research that offers the potential to advance research on the use of new digital technologies in museums.
